What kind of practice is Your MD?

Your MD is a patient focused primary care doctor’s office specializing in Family Medicine.  We are Mequon’s first Direct Primary Care Clinic.  Our goal is to provide high quality healthcare that is easily accessible at an affordable price. When you become a member of Your MD, for a low monthly fee, you will retain Dr. Lewis as your primary care physician available for your healthcare needs 24/7.  As a member each office visit, no matter it’s complexity, will be $25 per visit. Procedures and labs will be 50% off our already low fees.  At this time we also offer appointments or walk-in care, when available, to non-members for urgent care issues such as sore throats, flu, cuts or burns, just to name a few.

What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care is an innovative healthcare model that puts the patient first by eliminating the third party, insurance companies.  This allows us to greatly reduce our operating expenses and pass those savings along to the patients, all while giving the highest quality primary care.  It’s all about bringing back the way medicine used to be.  Having a personal relationship with a physician who knows who you are and knows your personal health needs. The doctor patient relationship is just as the name suggests – direct.

Is membership at Your MD insurance?

No, membership is not an insurance plan.

Do you accept insurance?

No we do not accept traditional insurance or Medicare/Medicaid.  However we are excited about being a provider for Liberty Health Share and their Liberty Direct program that will cover our membership fees and provide you with major medical coverage through their health share program.  This qualifies for coverage under the Affordable Care Act and offers you the opportunity to save thousands of dollars on your health care.  Check out the Liberty Health Share plans at libertydirect.org or libertyhealthshare.org.  Contact us to learn more.

This direct fee-for-services arrangement frees us from the typical contractual agreements that prevent physicians from offering wholesale prices on laboratory testing, imaging, and medications.

As a patient of Your MD, will I still need health insurance?

Yes.  We recommend that our patients continue to carry both a major medical plan and when possible a health savings account to ensure financial help should hospitalization or referral to a specialist be necessary.  We also encourage you to look into the Liberty Direct program as an option.

If I have insurance, why would I see a doctor who doesn't bill my insurance?

Two reasons.  Quality of care and affordability.  Often, the charges incurred for an office visit at Your MD are less than if we billed your insurance.  If you have a high deductible plan, on average, your cost of an office visit at Your MD is 50-75% less than what is billed at a conventional clinic.  In addition, you will always see a medical doctor and it will always be the same doctor, Dr. Lewis.  At the end of each visit you will receive a medically coded invoice that you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement as an “out of network” provider.  The only exception is if your insurance is Medicare or Medicaid.  If you are insured by either of these programs, you cannot submit our invoice.

Will I benefit from Your MD even if I don’t require frequent medical attention?

Of course.  We might argue that everyone benefits from a service tailored directly for them.  That’s why we offer custom healthcare.  Our practice is devoted to the maintenance of your good health.  In wellness and therapeutic care alike, the benefit of seeing Dr. Lewis at Your MD is time!  Precious, irretrievable time because every visit is easy-going, absolutely thorough and relaxed in answering your questions and addressing your needs.  Then, as the months and years go by, we’ll build a comprehensive and intimate knowledge of your health, an invaluable understanding rarely seen in today’s large clinic healthcare model.

How do you save me money on my health care costs?

The cost of even one or two office visits each year when you are sick adds up quickly even if you have insurance.  Add in the cost of labs and even an emergency room visit that could have been taken care of by your primary care physician if you had 24/7 access, and the cost can be mind boggling when that bill comes in the mail.  By paying a stable monthly fee and a minimal fee for office visits we can help control these costs while increasing your access to care.  Members receive 50% off our already low costs for procedures.  We have negotiated low wholesale costs on labs with Columbia St. Mary’s and have some labs available on site for as little as $5-$10!  We are currently working on adding wholesale cost for x-ray and imaging.  We are all about price transparency so when considering a membership with Your MD we are happy show you our member pricing on labs and procedures.

If I have Medicare, can I still join Your MD?

Yes.  You need to sign a waiver declaring that neither your nor Your MD will directly bill Medicare for covered services.  Your Medicare benefits will otherwise remain unchanged and can continue to be used for all other medical care received outside of Your MD.  Medicare will continue to cover any laboratory testing, imaging, medications, or hospitalizations Dr. Lewis prescribes.

What if I need to see a specialist or go to the hospital?

In providing superb care and easy access Dr. Lewis can often prevent or reduce hospitalizations and specialty referrals.  In instances where those types of care are required, Dr. Lewis will coordinate with the hospitalist during your hospital stay to manage your care or work closely with any specialist.

What if I need prescription medications, labs and/or x-rays?

We will be offering some discounted prescription medications or you may take Dr. Lewis’s prescription to a local pharmacy using your insurance.   Some labs are available on site at a very low cost or at Columbia St. Mary’s just up the street at wholesale cost, otherwise you may take your lab orders and have them run through your insurance.*  We are currently trying to negotiate reduced costs for x-ray and imaging.  At this time we are not providing children’s vaccinations but let us know if you would like help arranging for these.

*Medicaid and Medicare exceptions apply

Can I contact Dr. Lewis after hours?

Yes, by all means.  We understand that illness and injury do not always occur during regular office hours and you make contact Dr. Lewis any hour of the day or night.

Can kids become members?

Yes, we love taking care of kids.  We have a membership plan for a family of 2 adults and 2 minor children for $100/month and each additional minor child is only $15/month.

How will I know if Dr. Lewis is right for me?

Schedule a free unconditional visit to discuss your health care needs.  It’s the only reasonable way to begin what, we trust, will be a long, productive, healthy relationship.
